LAKE COUNTY — The Registrar of Voters is accepting written arguments for and against County Measure “D,” the proposed medical marijuana cultivation law. The submission deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday.

County voters are set to decide during the June 5 election whether to enact “The Lake County Medical Marijuana Cultivation Act of 2012.”

Last month, the Board of Supervisors (BOS) approved placing the citizen-drafted ordinance on the ballot after proponents gathered enough signatures for their initiative petition.

Only one argument for and one against the measure will be selected for printing and distribution with the sample ballots.

Arguments can be submitted by BOS members, the proponents, bona fide associations of citizens or individual voters eligible to vote on the measure.

Submissions cannot exceed 300 words and no more than five signatures shall appear with any written argument.

Any argument must be accompanied by a form required by the California Elections Code stating the printed and signed name(s) of the person(s) submitting it, or if turned in on behalf of an organization, the name of the group and printed name and signature of at least one of the principal officers.

Interested people can contact the Office of the Registrar of Voters at 263-2372 before the filing deadline.

Registrar of Voters Diane Fridley reported having no submissions as of Monday afternoon.
