LAKEPORT — On Saturday, the Scouts of Lake County put on the annual Scout Carnival for hundreds of local children of all ages. Boys and girls (Sea Scouts and Venture Crews are open to girls) from all around the lake set-up and operated 28 booths with a little help from their parents and leaders.
The attending crowd enjoyed tri-tip, chilli, snowcones and sweets from the cake walk.
Spinning wheels, fishing poles and flying corks, balls and bean bags characterized many of the activities in Lewis Hall at the Lake County Fairgrounds from noon to 5 p.m. New this year was the huge Scout Council bounce house and scout-made air hockey tables.
The sounds of laughter and cheering died down at 4 p.m. as the door prize portion of the carnival took center stage. Everyone was hoping their ticket would be drawn from out of the barrel housing more than 10,000 tickets.
Thirty-five door prizes were presented to the selected winners. Each scout group donated three prizes to be added to the top prizes offered by Guy”s Strohmeier”s Auto Center, Allen”s Furniture and Lyle Madeson. Guy Strohmeier”s Auto Center has been donating a used car for the Scout Carnival for more than 10 years and Allen”s Furniture has contributed a recliner for more than 20 years. Lyle and Deanna Madeson began donating a framed nature photo last year.
After expenses, all proceeds from this annual fundraiser go to Lake County scout groups for activities, camp, and other adventures.
