LAKE COUNTY — The Lake Family Resource Center raised approximately $19,000 for its programs and services from the fifth annual Wine & Chocolate benefit event.

Executive director Gloria Flaherty said around 650 people attended the event, held Feb. 11 at Mt. Konocti Winery and Event Center.

“That”s way over anything we”ve had in the past,” Flaherty said, adding she was “thrilled” by the attendance numbers. She said 400 people attended the 2011 benefit.

Those attending were able to sample wines from 31 Lake County wineries and food from 12 restaurants. Emilio Dela Cruz and Paul Manuel of Chacewater Winery and Olive Mill offered olive oil sensory tasting to attendees and local sommelier Stephanie Green offered wine sensory tasting. Flaherty said sensory tastings demonstrated how to pick out aromas and tastes. Musical entertainment was provided by David Neft.

Flaherty said attendees enjoyed the fire pit, which was first constructed at last year”s event when the weather was much colder. Attendees were able to sit with their wine and food in front of the fire, she said, adding it was “just wonderful.”

Flaherty said the benefit helps the Lake Family Resource Center fund its many countywide services, such as child abuse treatment and the domestic violence shelter.

She said the event was a “wonderful effort by a lot of people,” adding it was “a lot of fun (and) a great success.”
