CLEARLAKE — Southshore Little League (SSL) will hold Opening Day ceremonies beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at Redbud Ballpark in Clearlake. The event will include a message from league president Jim Peters and introduction of teams, managers, board members and sponsors as well as recital of the Little League player and parent pledges.
Professional baseball player Ray Silva, Jr. who began his playing career on the diamond through SLL, will throw out the first pitch to signify the start of the 2012 season.
In the event of rain, the ceremony will be postponed one week.
“We anticipate an exciting season with many returning players, coaches and sponsors,” Peters said.
Opening Day games are scheduled as follows: 11 a.m. Padres vs. White Sox (minors); 2 p.m. Storm vs. River Cats (lower minors); 2 p.m. Marlins vs. Angels (major softball); 4:30 p.m. Brewers vs. Rockies (major baseball); and 4:30 p.m. Rockies vs. Rangers (major softball). T-ball teams will also play at 2:30 p.m.
