LAKE COUNTY — A big rig trailer overturned on Highway 20, blocking the westbound lane at 6:25. p.m. Tuesday. The truck struck an embankment on the westbound side of the road, causing the rearmost trailer, which contained cows, to turn over on its side, Leah Hodgson, public safety dispatcher for the California Highway Patrol (CHP), said.

The crash occurred about six miles east of the Highway 53 Cutoff, Matia Moore, CHP public safety dispatch officer, said.

Following the crash the cows in the overturned trailer began walking through a hole in the top and up onto a nearby embankment. After walking back to look at the trailer, the driver of the tipped truck began directing traffic, waving cars past.

Three officers responded. There were no injuries reported.
