CLEARLAKE — An explosive device was reported on Tuesday at about 10:50 a.m., when a citizen brought an item to the Clearlake Police Department (CPD) that he found on the 14400 block of Uhl Ave.
The man told CPD officers he found the device a few days earlier and believed it was some sort of an already burned explosive device.
When officers examined the device in the CPD parking lot, they determined it was a live, homemade incendiary device constructed from a glass container. The device appeared as though someone attempted to detonate it, according to CPD.
For safety reasons and until the device could be identified, the CPD and Clearlake City Hall parking lots were temporarily closed to traffic. Lake County Fire Protection District responded and identified the item as a “Molotov cocktail” -style explosive device containing a flammable liquid.
The device was rendered safe and has been secured for further evidentiary testing. The CPD learned that this is the third such device located on the 14400 block of Uhl Ave. in less than a week.
The CPD is asking for the public”s help in identifying those responsible in the construction, or attempted detonation of these devices.
The CPD would like to thank Lake County Fire Protection District for its quick response and identification of the device.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the CPD at 994-8251. Witnesses may remain anonymous.
