LAKE COUNTY — The Lake County Probation and Parole Department re-created the position of Assistant Chief, which was filled Friday by former Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) Capt. Rob Howe.
“We feel lucky that we got him for this position,” Steve Buchholz, Director of Probation and Parole, said. We needed additional management staff, in-part because of the state realignment and we began recruiting.”
The Lake County Board of Supervisors will consider a request from the Probation and Parole Department on Tuesday regarding a move from a former bank building in Lower Lake to the former social services building in Clearlake.
“If the board approves the lease, we will be moving the Day Reporting Center (DRC) there expediently.” Buchholz added.
The new state prison realignment law created the need for a facility.
“We would not have a DRC had it not been for realignment. That is, our caseloads are increasing because of this new law. Also, the state provided funding for programs, which is how we are paying for the DRC,” Buchholz said.
