CLEARLAKE — Highlands Senior Service Center (HSSC) invites the community to tie on their sneakers and join the March for Meals on Friday at 3045 Bowers Road in Clearlake.
Registration for the walkathon begins at 8:30 a.m. with the walk commencing at 9 a.m. From HSSC, participants will march to the Burns Valley Shopping Center to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on a local level.
Walkers are encouraged to stop by HSSC before Friday to pick up a marcher”s packet of information. Packets will also be available during registration.
Anyone wishing to sponsor a walker or to make a donation to March For Meals can call 994-3051 or come by HSSC for more information. All donations are tax deductible.
After the march, the public is invited to an open house at HSSC. This year”s events include presentations and informational booths from several organizations including Rite-Aid, US Cellular, the Senior Law Project, VetConnect, Konocti Senior Support, Sequoia Senior Services, Hospice, Senior Helpers and others. Special guest speakers and demonstrations will be at the event.
A roast beef lunch complete with mashed potatoes and gravy, carrots, salad bar and dessert will be available at a cost of $7 general or $3.50 suggested donation for seniors.
There will be a raffle drawing with a grand prize of a week of condo time at Heavenly at Tahoe. Other raffle prizes include dinner for two at Cabo”s Mexican Restaurant, breakfast for two at Howard”s Grotto, gift certificates for massage and acupuncture treatments, two pictures from Griffin”s Furniture, a gift certificate from Artisan Handiworks and more.
Raffle tickets are available now at HSSC. The cost is $1 per ticket for six for $5. Call 994-3051 or come by 3045 Bowers Road to pick up the tickets.
