UPDATED:

I have been a long-time admirer and supporter of Congressman Thompson. That support, however, was seriously eroded when he boasted to me that he had assisted in writing the horrendous legislation that has become known as Obamacare.

Lately his public statements have shown no sign of the fiscal conservatism he professes. This current screed is a case in point.

He decries the budget produced by House Republicans. It, at least, attempts to save the Medicare program for future generations. It also addresses the out-of-control spending preferred by Democrats. On the other hand, the Democrats plan … that”s right, they haven”t produced a budget plan in three years.

I guess their plan is to just let the program go belly-up in a few more years, or hope that a future Congress can fix it. He also professes support for further “investment” in such unneeded projects as high-speed rail and other investments. Investment is the Democrats code word for more massive deficit spending.

It would appear that Mr. Thompson feels $15 trillion debt is not enough.

Maybe they will be satisfied when the Chinese refuse to further finance our debt and the dollar erodes to the point where it will no longer be accepted as the world”s reserve currency. Maybe we can then riot in the streets as they do in Greece.

I don”t know how the rest of the people feel about it, but I would just as soon not go down that road.
