CLEARLAKE OAKS — A high-speed pursuit on residential roads Saturday morning resulted in the arrest of a Glenhaven man.
According to Sgt. John Gregore with the Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO), a deputy observed a green-colored Cadillac traveling on Keys Boulevard near Venus Village in Clearlake Oaks. Gregore said the deputy recognized the vehicle and reportedly knew that it was associated with Romondis Thompson, 25, of Glenhaven.
The deputy allegedly observed the vehicle cross over the double-yellow centerlines on Keys Boulevard while turning onto Konocti View Road, which is a moving violation, according to Gregore. The deputy reportedly attempted to stop the vehicle and the driver turned onto Lakeland Drive, allegedly accelerating to approximately 70 mph on the residential street, Gregore said.
The deputy reportedly activated his emergency lights and sirens and the pursuit continued on Second Street and Schindler Street at speeds of 50 to 60 mph, Gregore said. The driver allegedly turned the vehicle”s lights off on Schindler Street and pulled into a vacant lot near Schindler Street and Lake Street.
According to Gregore, the deputy alleged Thompson exited the driver”s door and continued to flee on foot. The suspect”s vehicle reportedly rolled over a berm in the lot and crashed into an oak tree.
Gregore said the deputy and his K9 partner allegedly pursued Thompson but were unable to apprehend him at the scene. During the investigation, deputies allegedly learned the vehicle Thompson was driving was also reported as stolen, Gregore said.
Thompson was reportedly located later by another deputy at a nearby residence, according to Gregore. He was arrested on charges of felony evading, auto theft, driving on a suspended license, resisting arrest and a probation violation. Gregore said that when Thompson was arrested, deputies alleged he displayed signs and symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance and was additionally charged.
Gregore said Thompson remains in custody at the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility on a no-bail probation hold and a $100,000 bail on the other charges.
