LUCERNE ? A wind-driven structure fire displaced a couple from their home on Hendricks Drive in Lucerne early Tuesday morning.

Central Dispatch received multiple 9-1-1 calls about a structure fire to a home at 5:19 a.m. Structure dispatch included equipment from Lucerne, Nice and Clearlake Oaks fire stations from the Northshore Fire District. Five minutes into the call were reports from the first due in fire engine from the Lucerne station. A second alarm was called by the duty chief and additional equipment from Upper Lake and Clearlake Oaks Stations were dispatched, according to Northshore Deputy Fire Chief Pat Brown.

It was a very aggressive fire attack by first arriving units. Tasks included roof ventilation on the multi-level roof, ceilings pulled in garage area, living room and the cathedral ceiling in the master bedroom. Salvage covers were placed throughout the house and high priority items of the residence were recovered, Brown said Tuesday afternoon. The fire was controlled by 6 a.m.

The Red Cross was dispatched and provided aid to the couple with temporary housing. A contractor was contacted to provide board-up and plastic covering for the home before the heavy rainfall started.

Loss to the home as a result of the fire is placed at approximately $80,000. The fire started on the exterior of the home near the recycle plastic container. The investigation is ongoing.

Units responding from Northshore Fire Protection District included four engines, two medic ambulances, two chief officers and two support units out of the Upper Lake and Lucerne Stations.
