LAKEPORT — A man arrested Wednesday by the Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) on outstanding warrants was also charged with theft from a vehicle, a Lakeport Police Department (LPD) spokesman said.
According to LPD Sgt. Kevin Odom, officers responded to a call Wednesday shortly before 8 a.m. from a resident in the 800 block of Jerry Drive.
The resident reported seeing a man rummaging through the interior of her unlocked vehicle parked at the residence, Odom said. The suspect fled after being confronted by the alleged victim, the sergeant added.
Odom said an off-duty LCSO deputy saw Michael Santos, 30, of Lakeport in the area of Boggs Lane and Oakcrest Drive a few blocks away. The deputy recognized Santos and knew he had outstanding warrants for his arrest, according to Odom.
The deputy notified Lake County dispatch and provided a description of Santos, which reportedly matched that of the man seen rummaging through the vehicle on Jerry Drive, according to Odom. LPD patrol units checked the area for Santos but did not locate him.
At approximately 2 p.m., an LCSO deputy located Santos in the 2900 block of Lakeshore Boulevard and arrested him for his outstanding warrants, Odom said. LPD Officer Norm Taylor responded and allegedly recovered stolen property in Santos” possession taken from the Jerry Drive vehicle, according to Odom.
Santos was booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility. Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Taylor at 263-5491.
