LUCERNE — Emergency crews responded to a fire Sunday morning and discovered a man dead inside the ablaze mobile home.
Michael Fulk, 72, of Lucerne was identified as the deceased.
Northshore Fire Protection District (NFPD) personnel were dispatched after emergency operators received multiple calls at around 6 a.m., deputy chief Pat Brown said.
The first engine arrived within six minutes and found a fully involved trailer at the Lorraine Village Mobile Home Park on East Highway 20 in Lucerne, Brown said.
“Twenty minutes into the structure, fire crews found a victim in the rear portion of the mobile home,” Brown said.
Firefighters contained the blaze by approximately 7 a.m., he added.
The deceased man was the only reported occupant.
“Preliminary indication of cause was electrical,” though a Lake County Arson Task Force investigation is pending, Brown said.
First responders also contacted a woman, possibly a neighbor, who told the firefighters she went into the burning mobile home in an attempt to save the man, but heat and smoke forced her out, according to Brown.
The woman, whose identity was not revealed, was taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport and later released, Brown said.
More than two dozen emergency personnel responded, consisting of staff from NFPD and Lakeport Fire Protection District, according to Brown.
