FORT BRAGG — Five middle school wrestlers from the Konocti Unified School District brought home four medals, including three firsts, on Saturday during an eight-team tournament in Fort Bragg.

“I told them, ”Show me what you”ve learned from me the last five weeks,”” Konocti middle school coach Ed Fuchs said. “I was proud of the guys.”

Gabriel Freeman won all four of his matches by pin at 101 pounds. In fact, Freeman beat another weight division winner in his final match. Nick Perazzo went 3-0 with three pins to win at 136 pounds and Daniel Meyer went 2-0 with two pins to win at 98 pounds.

“He (Perazzo) was on a mission, and it was basically the same with Gabriel Freeman,” Fuchs said.

Zachary Bartley just missed winning his weight division, going 3-1 at 81 pounds. His only loss was an 8-6 overtime decision in the championship match.

“It could have easily went the other way,” Fuchs said of the 81-pound finals.

Jacob Freeman also wrestled for Konocti at 74 pounds.

“I”m really enjoying the season with these guys,” Fuchs said. “I hope all of these kids come up and wrestle with me at the high school.”

Fuchs is also the wrestling coach at Lower Lake High School.

Konocti”s final tournament is Thursday in Lakeport.
