ST. HELENA — St. Helena senior pitcher Brian Begerow just missed a perfect game on Tuesday as the Saints dominated the Lower Lake Trojans 15-0 in a North Central League I varsity baseball game at St. Helena.
Begerow didn”t allow a hit or walk a batter in the five-inning contest, which was called early because of the 10-run rule. St. Helena”s defense also didn”t make an error during a game that puts the Saints atop the NCL I standings at 2-0. Lower Lake”s only baserunner was the result of a hit batter – Begerow plunked Ryan Dahneke in the top of the second inning.
After retiring Lower Lake (0-2, 5-3) in order in the top of the first inning, the Saints scored 12 times in the bottom of the first. St. Helena”s first 11 batters all reached base and scored.
“They looked really good,” Lower Lake coach John Miller said of the Saints. “One through nine they”re solid.”
