KELSEYVILLE — This year”s Kelseyville Pear Festival”s poster captures the spirit and traditions of Kelseyville”s rich agricultural history. Artist Carolyn Morris, a 37-year Kelseyville resident, has created a picture reflecting images of a simpler time.
Painting is a “life time love” for Morris. Primarily self-taught, she has taken a few classes along the way to developing her signature Americana style.
Morris said the inspiration for the rustic barn comes from the many classic red rust-roofed barns in Big Valley. The quilt square on the rough hewn barn”s front is the “pear basket.”
The vibrant colors; verdant greens of the pear orchard, the effervescent purples of Mount Konocti and luminescent blues in the lake and sky are rich and lively. The iconic red truck with the wood rack sides is a show stealer. The 2012 poster is an assemblage of the classic components of Kelseyville. The poster will soon be available for purchase.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Kelseyville Pear Festival. Starting 20 years ago with a few booths, today the festival fills the entire Kelseyville downtown. It is a jam-packed day with a parade, tractors, music, food, crafts and entertainment.
The weekend begins on the night of Sept. 28, with a barbecue dinner under the stars. The dinner is held in the Courtyard of Wildhurst Tasting Room. The Konocti Fiddlers and Dave Stamey, cowboy poet, tops the evening.
The Pear Festival takes place on Sept. 29.
