LOWER LAKE — The Lower Lake Trojans failed to score any runs in the varsity baseball and softball games they hosted against the Clear Lake Cardinals on Friday.
On the baseball diamond, Clear Lake senior Chad Elliston shut out Lower Lake over six innings. He gave up only two hits in the 10-0 victory.
Clear Lake scored two runs in the first inning, exploded for a six-run second and added single runs in the third and sixth.
Sophomore Josh McCarty and senior Aron James had the only hits for Lower Lake.
The Trojans committed four errors. Junior pitcher Zef Roofener took the loss, giving up seven runs (only one earned) in 1 1/3 innings.
Clear Lake varsity baseball moved to 1-0 in North Central League I play and 4-3 overall. Lower Lake fell to 0-3 in league, 5-4 overall.
The story was similar on the softball field.
Clear Lake varsity softball (3-0 in league, 6-1 overall) blanked Lower Lake 13-0.
The visitors scored one run in the second inning, six in the third, one in fourth and five in the fifth. The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Lower Lake (1-1 in league and 8-3 overall) managed only one hit, a third-inning single by senior Nicole Spooner.
The hometown team committed five errors, four of which counted against outfielders.
