CLOVERDALE — Four out of five matches went the maximum three sets Thursday in Cloverdale where the host Eagles edged Clear Lake 3-2 in Coastal Mountain Conference tennis action.
The last match of the day had Cloverdale”s Jose Torres and Ben Natividad rally for a 2-6, 7-6 (10-8), 7-5 victory over Brian Gatton and Nathan Harper in first doubles.
“There was some quality tennis being played,” Clear Lake coach Milo Meyer said. “We”re learning, we”re young.”
Clear Lake”s two wins came in second singles — Kenny Henninger rallied past Oscar Ochoa 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 — and in second doubles — Faith Hornby and Serena Kacharos defeated Omar Ruiz and Katie Menzel 6-3, 6-4.
In other action, Cloverdale”s Sal Mendoza beat Raul Rendon 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 in first singles, and Cloverdale”s Hanna Pope rallied past Tamara Rojas 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in third singles.
In exhibition doubles play, Nick Dudley and Mike Reynolds of Clear Lake beat Adriana Gutierrez and Mariana Ramirez 6-4, 6-1.
The Cardinals are off until April 19 when they host St. Helena.
