LAKEPORT — The combined swim team of Clear Lake and Kelseyville high schools hosted El Molino on Thursday and came away with an 80-43 Sonoma County League win in the varsity boys” division. El Molino edged the Clear Lake/Kelseyville girls 80-74.

Calistoga, which will field a swim team next year, also participated in the meet.

The opening 200-yard medley relay event set the tone for the Clear Lake/Kelseyville boys with the team of Andres Tejeda, Matteo Merodio, Evan Thompson, and Nathan Powers scoring a come-from-behind win. There were plenty of first-place finishes to follow for the home team.

— Thompson won the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, his time in the latter event earning him a spot on the Redwood Empire”s top-10 list.

— Merodio continued his undefeated streak in the 100 breaststroke and won the 200 IM, where he is also among the league”s top 10.

— Aaron Copsey took firsts in both of his individual events, the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

— The 200 freestyle relay team of Copsey, Tejeda, Thompson and Pedro Hernandez as well as the 400 freestyle relay team of Copsey, Hernandez, Merodio and Powers also finished first.

Second-place finishes went to Powers in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle), and to Tejeda in the 200 freestyle.

For the varsity girls, Chelo Lundquist-Krag led Clear Lake/Kelseyville with a win in the 100 butterfly. She joined Sarah Merodio, Shao-Jia Chang and Lisa Kurth to win the 200 freestyle relay.

Individual second-place finishes went to Lundquist-Krag (200 IM), Soraya Turner (100 freestyle), Allison Hanson (500 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Sarah Merodio (100 breaststroke).

The Clear Lake/Kelseyville girls also earned seconds in the 200 medley relay (Hanson, Chang, Lundquist-Krag and Kurth, the 200 freestyle relay (Hanson, Turner, Lily Rae, Kara Gaylor), and the 400 freestyle relay (Gaylor, Turner, Angela Tompkins and Argelia Hernandez).

Coach Agustin Merodio said he was happy with the day”s results.

“Great meet! It was exciting to watch so many close races,” Merodio said.

Several of his swimmers clocked personal best times, according to Merodio.

The team travels to Petaluma to take on Casa Grande April 19 at 4 p.m.
