WILLITS — Bouncing back from a 13-0 loss on Friday to Clear Lake, the Lower Lake Trojans battered Willits 12-1 in a North Central League I softball game on Monday afternoon in Willits.
“I don”t think we lost any confidence,” Lower Lake coach Chris Emberson said when asked if there was any carryover from Friday”s one-sided defeat to the league-leading Cardinals. “Today was the best game all around for us. We really smacked the ball.”
Lower Lake (2-1 league, 9-3 overall) collected 14 hits in the five-inning contest, which was called early because of the 10-run rule. Eight of those hits were doubles, including two apiece for Selena Ledesma (2-for-4, two RBI) and Adrina Miller (3-for-4, two RBI).
“Ledesma came through big-time for us in the leadoff spot,” Emberson said. “Adrina is hitting line drives everywhere. She”s definitely putting the bat on the ball.”
Miller, the Trojans” center fielder, also threw out a runner at the plate for the second game in a row.
“I haven”t seen a girl with such a strong arm,” Emberson said.
Lower Lake”s defense didn”t commit an error.
“The defense really came through for us,” Emberson added.
Winning pitcher Shelbie Harris scattered six hits in working all five innings for the Trojans. She struck out one and walked four.
Ahead 3-0 after one inning, the Trojans batted around during an eight-run second inning to put the game away. Both teams scored a run in the fourth.
JoAnna Wakeman went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI for Lower Lake.
