CLEARLAKE OAKS — Vehicle speed and wet road conditions appeared to be factors in a silver Toyota plunging into the lake off Highway 20 just east of Hillside Drive around 5:13 p.m. Tuesday in Clearlake Oaks.
Nicole Bruener, 22, of Lakeport, who was the driver and sole-occupant of the vehicle escaped uninjured.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Curtis, Bruener was traveling eastbound on Highway 20 when she lost control of her vehicle and fishtailed in through a corner in the roadway. Her vehicle ultimately landed in the lake.
Northshore Fire Protection District (NFPD) responded to the scene. The woman was placed into a medical unit with complaints of being cold.
NFPD Dive Team also responded. Diver Keith Hoyt secured the vehicle to a tow chain to assist an All American Towing tow truck driver in removing the car from the water.
