UKIAH — Friends of the Mendocino College Library is hosting a reading by former Ukiah Poet Laureate David Smith-Ferri on April 19 at 7 p.m. in room 5310 in the Center for the Visual and Performing Arts on the Ukiah campus. Admission is free.

Smith-Ferri will read and present a slide show from his latest book, “With Children Like Your Own” (Haley”s Press, 2011), depicting his encounters with people in the Middle East and Afghanistan. His presentation includes slides and poetry.

According to Smith-Ferri, poetry is an art form that is especially well suited for communicating the urgency of the problems he has witnessed and for representing the voices of those who bear the brunt of the United States-led wars on Iraq and Afghanistan.
