In Darryl Smith”s recent letter to the editor, he seems to think that the government, both state and federal, are actually there to help us, the taxpayers.
Perhaps long ago in another era, he may have been correct.
However, I believe that our government has devolved into a self-serving bunch of bureaucrats whose main goal is to be re-elected.
I agree that if something isn”t done to stop the outrageous spending, we are on our way to rioting in the streets to protest the tyranny of the very politicians who are supposed to help this country.
Congressmembers and Senators live lavish lifestyles at the taxpayers” expense. Why is it that only the wealthy can succeed to political office in Washington or any state government office?
I feel that the first cuts should be in our government. A revamp of our esteemed representatives expenses might better serve the public.
We are suppose to have (according to Lincoln”s Gettysburg Address) a government “of the people, by the people, for the people,” not by the elite for their own personal gain at the expense of the people. Let us return to a government where we (the people) have control of our government.
