LAKE COUNTY — The March for Meals 2012 campaign was a huge success for all of the senior centers with nutrition programs in Lake County.

On March 30, many gathered at the Clearlake Oaks and Highlands senior centers to march and learn more about the centers. On March 31, marchers gathered at the Lucerne Alpine, Lakeport and Middletown senior centers and despite the rainy weather, marched as planned.

The fight to end senior hunger and bring independence and hope to the growing aging population is a continual effort. The senior centers in Lake County are grateful to have the backing of a generous community, where hundreds of volunteers and generous people, businesses and clubs provide both time and money to continue their missions.

Lakeport Elks Lodge held a fundraiser dinner and raised $700 for Lakeport. Adrianna Guardado, an active member of the 4H, raised $549.59 for Lakeport.

“It was impressive to see a young person care so much for our seniors” Mary Veeninga of the Lakeport Senior Activity Center”s board of directors, said.

The efforts of this year”s campaign has risen $20,285.99 so far. Middletown raised $2,765, Clearlake Oaks raised $3,400, Lucerne raised $4,000, Highlands raised $2,859 and Lakeport raised $7,261.
