UPPER LAKE — On April 21, the Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake will host a special four-course winemaker dinner highlighting the wines of Shed Horn Cellars in Middletown with food prepared by Blue Wing Executive Chef Nick Heidemann.
Shed Horn owners Mike and Adawn Wood will be there to introduce their wines and the paired items on the menu.
Winemaker dinners in the Tallman Dining Room are limited to 30 guests. “We”ve always featured Lake County wines exclusively at the Blue Wing,” owner Bernie Butcher said, “and the great wines from Shed Horn have been among the most popular. It”s always fun to meet the people behind Lake County”s growing wine business.”
Shed Horn Cellars is the vision of long-time Lake County resident and award-winning winemaker Michael Wood. For many years Mike has produced wines for prestigious Lake County wineries including Shannon Ridge and Vigilance. After years of training and experience, Mike and wife Adawn branched out by creating their own label.
While production remains small, the fine wines of Shed Horn have consistently won gold medals at prestigious wine competitions. Shed Horn recently opened a tasting room located on Calistoga Street in Middletown.
Chef Nick Heidemann has designed a creative menu for the evening, a link to which can be found at www.tallmanhotel.com/winemaker-dinner.
“I love the Shed Horn Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, which we”ve paired with the first two courses,” he said. “But one of my favorite dishes is an eggplant and lamb moussaka that immediately hit me as a perfect main course pairing when I tasted its 2008 Petite Syrah.”
The Tallman dinner will also feature the first blended wine produced by the Woods. “We call it Non Typical,” says Mike Wood, “because it”s a pretty special combination of Lake County fruit ? zinfandel, barbera, syrah, cabernet and petite syrah.”
Reservations for the dinner can be made by calling the Tallman Hotel at 275-2244 ext. 0. The price is $65 plus tax.
