Is organic food better for us?
We have been arguing this one for a long time, so I decided to look at this from a slightly different angle. The USDA Food Safety Inspection Service keeps a list of all food recalled, which is available on its website at www.fsis.usda.gov/Fsis_Recalls/Recall_Case_Archive_2011/index.asp#PHA.
I counted more than 50 recalls in 2011, and none of the product names used the word organic in them. This year there are nine cases to date, three related to fresh salad products. None of these products were labeled organic. This is not a million dollar study with several Ph.D”s involved, but I know how I feel about listeria and salmonella as a food additive and I”ll pass, thank you.
