UPPER LAKE — Upper Lake High School (ULHS) will celebrate the 42nd anniversary of Earth Day from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday in the gym.

The theme behind this event is to provide a creative environment for the students to increase their knowledge and awareness of the agencies that work together to protect and preserve the natural environment in Lake County. ULHS teachers and students from the science, agriculture, art and computer science departments will participate with projects and PowerPoint presentations.

Agencies will provide handout materials and give presentations about the part they play in keeping Lake County moving forward to retain and protect its natural environment.

There will be a celebration and proclamation read regarding ULHS”s collaboration with the California Partnership Academy. This grant for Clean Technology and Renewable Energy and Sustainable Agriculture Academy (AESA) will provide students with a four-year course of study that will equip them and will prepare them for careers in the growing field of a sustainable green economy.

Upper Lake has a cleanup day scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Members of the community are encouraged to join the efforts. Community service hours will be provided for ULHS students.

Claudine Pedroncelli is a member of the Upper Lake Union High School Board of Trustees.
