CLOVERDALE — Madi Kucer made her first appearance at No. 2 singles for the Middletown Mustangs and didn”t disappoint Tuesday in a 5-0 Coastal Mountain Conference tennis victory over the Cloverdale Eagles at Cloverdale.

Kucer defeated Jose Torres 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 as Middletown improved to 5-2 in the conference standings.

“She did great,” Middletown coach Marc Morita said of Kucer. “She got punched in the stomach in that second set but came roaring back to win the third.”

With a deep lineup, Morita said he wasn”t afraid to move Kucer from doubles to singles.

“We”re really deep one to seven,” Morita said.

Middletown won the other four matches in straight sets, including a 6-4, 7-5 victory by Cody Astley over Sal Mendoza in first singles and a 6-0, 6-1 win by Jeremy Turner over Ben Natividad in third singles.

In doubles action, Gerry Espinoza and Oscar Rincon teamed up to beat Hannah Pope and Alexis Hernandez 6-1, 6-1 in first doubles, and Nika Gibbs and Chris King were 6-0, 6-1 winners over Aidan Reynolds and Jose Lopez in second doubles.
