LAKEPORT — Emily Wingler allowed just one hit and two baserunners overall while pitching the Clear Lake Cardinals to a 17-0 win over Middletown in North Central League I softball action Tuesday in Lakeport.

The game was called after 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule.

Wingler allowed a one-out infield single to Hettie Egger in the top of the third. The only other Middletown baserunner was Maria Castaldo, who led off the game with a walk and reached second on an error.

Clear Lake (4-0 league, 9-2 overall) scored in all four of its at-bats against Middletown, pushing across one run in the first, six in the second, seven in the third and three in the fourth.

Wingler helped her own cause by going 2-for-3, Coree Alexander went 2-for-2 with two doubles, and Hannah Norwood went 2-for-2.

Wingler fanned 10, the third time this season she”s reached double-digit strikeouts.

Renee Edwards took the loss.

“They”re well-coached, well-disciplined,” Middletown coach Bob Cummesky said of the Cardinals. “It gives our Middletown team something to shoot for.”

Middletown fell to 0-3 in league and 3-9 overall.
