LOWER LAKE — Freshman Shelbie Harris tossed a four-hitter and the Lower Lake Trojans scored twice after two were out in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat the Kelseyville Knights 3-1 in a North Central League I softball pitcher”s duel Tuesday in Lower Lake.
Losing pitcher Sabrina Lyon allowed just five hits while striking out seven and walking three. Harris struck out four and issued two walks.
“It was a pitcher”s duel,” Lower Lake coach Chris Emberson said. “Both pitchers pitched pretty well today. It was Shelbie”s best game this season.”
Both teams scored a run in the first inning and it remained a 1-1 tie until the bottom of the sixth when Graf hit a two-out double to right-center field. JoAnna Wakeman tripled home Graf to give Lower Lake a 2-1 lead and Savannah Koch singled to left field to drive in Wakeman.
The defensive play of the game occurred in the top of the fourth when the Knights loaded the bases with no outs but failed to score, thanks in large part to a 3-2 double play turned by the Trojans.
Lower Lake improved to 3-1 in the league standings and 10-3 overall. Kelseyville is 1-3 in league and 3-4 overall.
