KELSEYVILLE — On March 26, the Kelseyville Unified School District (KUSD) food service department, along with student council representatives, had their annual International Food Court.
International Food Court is free to all students and staff. This year, students chose to cook food that represented a country of their choice.
Food was prepared from Germany, Mexico, Hawaiian barbecue and Italy as well as the traditional fruit stand. Students planned, prepared, cooked and decorated for the event.
Debbie Ingalls, Kelseyville High School art teacher, helped the students make posters as well as kept them on task during the planning stages.
Michelle Malm, food director for KUSD, and her staff helped students create what Malm described as “one of the best events yet.”
Nettie Worthington and Brenda Howe helped students carve fruit for the fruit stand. Claudia Gonzalez carved birds out of oranges to go under the palm tree made out of pineapples.
Deanna Goff took the Mexican station, Jan Kane and Erin Malispina on Hawaiian barbecue, Blaine Baker and Katie Graham tackled the German station with Malm and Danielle Aragon on the Italian station.
According to Malm, the event is a fun way of working one-on-one with students, teaching them how to prepare food they”ve never tried before and encouraging them to work as a team. “This event allows the students to let loose, be creative and have fun,” Malm said.
