LAKEPORT — An eighth-grade girl at Terrace Middle School said she might have been followed by a suspicious man while walking to school Friday morning, according to a police official.

“When she reached the area of what we believe to be High Street, she said she noticed the suspicious male walking in the same direction on the opposite side of the street,” Lakeport Police Department (LPD) Sgt. Kevin Odom said.

The girl, who started out to school from the 800 block of 16th Street, said the unknown man kept staring at her and walking slowly at about 7:40 a.m., according to Odom.

The sergeant said the girl was picked up by a friend several blocks later and received a ride to school from there. She did not see where the man went, Odom added.

LPD school resource officer Stephanie Green contacted the student at about 8:15 a.m., according to Odom.

The girl described the suspicious man as white, 30 to 40 years old and about 6 feet tall with a thin build and short, dirty blonde hair, Odom said.

The man also “was wearing a long-sleeve charcoal-colored shirt, beige pants, possibly shoeless, and had a dirty appearance,” Odom added.

Anybody with information related to the incident can contact Green, the investigating officer, at 263-5491.
