LAKEPORT — Lakeside Wellness Center”s tai chi instructor Arch Kottler invites Lake County residents to celebrate World Tai Chi and Chi Gung Day with a free, outdoor tai chi class, 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. April 28 in the healing gardens adjacent to the Wellness Center and hospital, located at 5176 Hill Road East in Lakeport.
Spectators and tai chi enthusiasts of all ages are welcome to join in the global health and healing celebration. Internationally, this event begins in New Zealand and will spread time zone by time zone across the globe, through 60 countries and across six continents. The intention, according to Kottler, is to create a “Healing Wave” to promote calm and worldwide wellness.
Tai chi and chi gung (chi kung) are health technologies that have evolved over thousands of years of research in China and are growing in popularity worldwide. They are used in hospitals, wellness centers, prisons, schools, and other institutions.
According to Kottler, research has shown that tai chi and chi gung may reduce anxiety, depression and chronic pain conditions. These classes boost the immune system, improve respiratory and cardiovascular function and burn calories.
Kottler offers weekly tai chi classes from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Lakeside Wellness Center. In addition, Kottler will continue to hold free tai chi gatherings from 9:45 to 10:45 p.m. on the last Saturday of each month from in cooperation with Summer of Peace in Lake County.
