FORT BRAGG — Despite out-hitting the Fort Bragg Timberwolves eight to seven, the Lower Lake Trojans fell 5-1 in a North Central League I softball game on Monday in Fort Bragg.
“We made too many baserunning mistakes … we ran ourselves out of a couple of innings,” Lower Lake coach Chris Emberson said.
Mental errors – such as not tagging up on a fly ball with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh – cost the Trojans (3-4 league, 10-6 overall) at least one more run.
Fort Bragg (3-3) had a 4-0 lead before Lower Lake scored its lone run in the top of the fourth. The Timberwolves countered with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Adrina Miller and Raelynn Scott each went 2-for-3 for Lower Lake. Amanda Graf (1-for-3) knocked in the Trojans” run.
Winning pitcher Cassidy Lowe went 2-for-3 for Fort Bragg. She went the distance, striking out three and walking one. Losing pitcher Shelbie Harris struck out three and walked five in her six innings on the mound.
