BLUE LAKES — Two Lucerne residents were taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital after their vehicles collided on Highway 20 Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Asheton Gene Cufaude, 23, was driving a 1970 Chevrolet truck westbound on the highway west of Scotts Valley Road at about 8:20 a.m. when, for undetermined reasons, he allowed his vehicle to drift over the double-yellow lines, the CHP stated.

The left side of Cufaude”s truck struck the left side of an oncoming 2009 Chevrolet truck driven by Allan Foster Stirnaman Jr., 52, according to the CHP.

Both vehicles went off of the roadway, and a 100-gallon auxiliary fuel tank fell out of Stirnaman”s truck bed and onto a dirt embankment, the CHP stated.

The tank had a “minimal leakage of gasoline,” which was contained, according to the CHP.

Cufaude suffered moderate injuries to his left leg while Stirnaman sustained minor back and neck injuries, the CHP stated.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor. The crash remains under CHP investigation.
