“Congress”
LAKE COUNTY — Auditions are being held for a summer show, “Congress: You Rule!”
Auditions will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Lake County Arts Council”s Main Street Gallery, located at 325 N. Main St. in Lakeport; and from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lower Lake Historic Schoolhouse Museum on Main Street in Lower Lake.
Performances take place in late July and early August.
“Congress” is a rock ”n” roll comedy based on the concept that the U.S. Congress can no longer get anything done and so its major decision-making has been turned into a TV game show.
Craziness ensues when the show tries to decide whether or not the United States should go war.
The cast requires six men and six women, teenage or older. Singing ability would help but is not essential for all parts.
Auditions will consist of a “cold read” and a bit of group singing and movement.
This show will take place on the last two weekends of July and the first two weekends of August so rehearsals will run from May to July and require a summer commitment.
The show will be part of Lake County”s “Summer of Peace” celebration and proceeds of the show will be shared with Meals-On-Wheels.
“Boardgame”
CLEARLAKE — An open audition for “Boardgame,” a one-act play produced by Barbara Christwitz, take place at 4:30 p.m. May 3 at Catfish Coffeehouse, located at 14624 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake.
Based on the Wall Street meltdown, the play takes place on a board game stage where insiders move hapless players around the perimeter.
The script, by Dante DeAmicis, can be read online at cachecreekregatta.org. Click on the “Slam Poems/Plays” tab and scroll past the “Yellowgrease” play to “Boardgame.”
There will be one performance at the Clearlake United Methodist Church on July 8. A recording of the performance will then be “played to death” on TV8 and the Internet.
There are five parts with little memorizing but the focus of the audition will be to fill the heavy-lifting roles of “Bernie the Banker,” “Wally Wallstreet” and possibly the director.
