KELSEYVILLE — Kelseyville and Middletown hosted Coastal Mountain Conference track meets on Wednesday, barely beating the rain that began to fall around the county in the early evening hours.

“The last two running events saw a little bit of rain, but overall things went pretty well,” Kelseyville coach Rob Ishihara said of a home meet against Clear Lake, Willits, Mendocino and Laytonville. “It (the meet) went quickly.”

Middletown, which hosted its first ever track meet on Monday, was back at home Wednesday at Bill Foltmer Field, this time against St. Helena, Fort Bragg, Calistoga, Sonoma Academy and Rio Lindo.

“As we were walking off the track (following the final event) it began to rain,” Middletown coach Louise Owens said. “It went great thanks to all the volunteers who helped us.”

In the Kelseyville meet, the Clear Lake Cardinals won all three divisions, prevailing 69-55 among the varsity boys, 72-41 among the varsity girls and 84-28 among the JV boys.

Highlights for Clear Lake were Jessica Asbury”s three firsts in the varsity girls” division. She won the 300-meter hurdles in 53.8 seconds, the long jump in 14 feet, 10 inches, and the triple jump in 28-1. Teammate Kelsie Lawson won the 800 in 2 minutes, 50.3 seconds and the 3,200 in 14:29.6. The Cardinals added another first in the high jump as Nadine Bradley cleared 4-6.

In the varsity boys” division, Arnulfo Vargas won the triple jump in 38-5 1/2 for Kelseyville while teammate D.J. Boyd picked up firsts in the 100 (12.02) and 200 (25.65).

For Clear Lake, Julio Gonzales won the shotput (41 1 1/4) and discus (91-5). Zuhuri Manley added another first in the long jump (21-7) and Tyler Thornton won the 110 hurdles (18.1).

Clear Lake dominated the JV boys” division led by Brice Beare, who had individual firsts in the 800 (2:27.4) and 1,600 (5:26). He also ran a leg on the winning 4×400 relay team as did teammate Gabe Strong, who also won two individual events, taking the shotput and discus (distances not available). Strong also finished second in the 100.

Two other Clear Lake double-event winners were Jonah Wilcox in the high jump (4-10) and 400 (1:01.4), and Kenyon Donald in the long jump (16-7) and triple jump (35-0).

Bradley Dale led Kelseyville with firsts in the 100 (13.29) and 200 (27.11). He also anchored the winning 4×100 relay team.

Longtime Kelseyville track and cross country coach Rico Abordo served as the official starter.

“We had a number of personal records today, which is good,” Ishihara said.

Middletown

At the Middletown meet, Middletown”s varsity girls beat St. Helena 93-48 and Fort Bragg 75-45, while the Middletown varsity boys defeated St. Helena 73-54 and lost to Fort Bragg 70-57.

For the varsity girls, Middletown”s Amber Ramponi collected firsts in the high jump (4-6) and 100 (14.3) while also anchoring the winning 4×400 relay team of Emily Reed, Rose Lynch and Aly Mino (4:52.8).

Other Middletown winners were Amber Hart in the 100 hurdles (17.9), Reed in the triple jump (31-7) and the 4×100 relay team of Ramponi, Mino, Hart and Kelly Wilkinson (56.5).

For the varsity boys, Victor Montanez broke the Middletown record in the 300 hurdles, winning in 44.4. Nick Dellia also broke his own school record in the shotput at 43-3, the fourth time this season he”s done that.

Kelseyville returns to action next Wednesday at Calistoga while Middletown travels to Lower Lake.
