CLEARLAKE OAKS — A big rig hauling logs on Highway 20 overturned with part of its trailer and load landing in Clear Lake Friday afternoon.
Several gallons of diesel fuel spilled but none of it reached the lake, according to a statement released by California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Kory Reynolds.
The incident occurred at about 1:35 p.m. Friday as the 2002 Freightliner traveled eastbound on the highway near Hillside Lane in Clearlake Oaks, Reynolds stated.
Richard Panopulos, 51, of Orland was driving the big rig and trying to negotiate a right curve when the load shifted and the truck and trailer overturned, according to Reynolds.
CHP officer Powell is investigating the crash. The California Department of Fish and Game and the Northshore Fire Protection District also responded.
The CHP remains on scene, and traffic control is in effect.
