Perhaps many Lake County residents are unaware that there is help for caregivers of loved ones. As a 20-year caregiver for a loving husband, I found respite and support that I greatly needed.
While I was reluctant to turn over my husband”s care to others, I soon found the Adult Day Care Center staff to be kind, caring, professional people.
My husband received one-on-one attention, and he was quite happy to be with others.
The activities, meals, and care were all excellent. Once again, the teacher in him came to the fore, making him feel useful and important.
The support group for caregivers was a Godsend for me because I learned so many useful tips for caregiving.
I felt that I was not alone in the world and that I had support and guidance from a professional staff. My husband passed away three years ago, but I continue to attend the support group.
I offer very high praise to Caroline Denny, Director of the Northlake Adult Day Center in Lucerne and to Jenny Johnson, Director of the Alzheimer”s Day Care Resource Center in Clearlake. High praise, also, to the volunteers who so ably assist at these locations.
For information and guidance, contact Caroline Denny at 263-9481 or Jenny Johnson at 350-3030.
You will be happy you made these calls for the benefit of yourself and for your loved one.
