LUCERNE — A Clearlake man was arrested early Friday morning on charges that he allegedly caused a major-injury crash while intoxicated and fled the scene Thursday evening.

Xavier David Pina, 37, was booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility Friday morning on two felony charges.

The rollover crash occurred on Highway 20 near Foothill Drive in Lucerne at approximately 6:50 p.m., according to a statement by Officer Kory Reynolds of the California Highway Patrol.

Reynolds stated Pina drove his 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pickup eastbound at an unknown speed when he lost control of the truck, which then overturned and came to rest in the roadway.

Passenger John Talavera, 55, of Lower Lake was found at the scene with major injuries, including a fractured neck, significant internal injuries and a severed right index finger, according to Reynolds.

REACH transported Talavera to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Reynolds stated.

Pina allegedly left the scene on foot but was located near the east end of Lucerne.

Pina was taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital and treated for cuts and a possibly fractured collarbone, according to Reynolds.

He was booked into the jail just after 6:10 a.m. Friday on charges of driving under the influence causing injury and leaving the scene of a crash. The incident is under investigation by Officer Patrick.

One-way traffic control was in effect until about 11:40 p.m.
