MIDDLETOWN — The Lake County Sheriff”s Office received reports that a woman was hit with a handgun and shots were later fired Friday night, according to a department spokesman.
Deputies arrived to a residence on Wardlaw Street just before midnight, according to a statement released by Capt. Chris Macedo.
One witness reported getting into an argument with an unknown man, who pulled out a handgun and waved it around, near Store 24 in Middletown, Macedo stated.
A female friend of the witness started walking away from the area, but the unknown man hit her on the head with the handgun, Macedo stated.
A friend of the witness reportedly pursued the unknown man but got punched by a second unknown man, Macedo stated.
The second unknown man took the gun and pointed it at the friend of the witness, according to Macedo.
An SUV then arrived — with two men inside — and the two unknown men climbed in before all four men drove away, Macedo stated.
The captain stated the witness and friends were at the corner of Wardlaw and Lincoln streets a few minutes later when the SUV drove past, at which time the first unknown man allegedly leaned out of the passenger side and fired two shots at the group.
Macedo stated no one reported being hit by the gunshots.
Deputies checked the area for additional witnesses or possible victims, according to Macedo. The case remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the department at 263-2690.
