LAKE COUNTY — The Lake County Model “A” Ford Club is hosting its 18th annual Spring Opener this weekend, with the theme of Cinco de Mayo along with some county history thrown in.
Club president Jerry Eddy said many clubs from across the state were invited to the event.
“About 15 clubs and 118 people are attending,” Eddy said, adding people have come from as far as the Fresno area, Oregon and Nevada for past events.
Attendees will gather Friday night at Rancho De La Fuente, located at 2290 Soda Bay Road, where a barbecue and musical entertainment will be provided.
The event begin with a breakfast at the ranch, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Club tour manager Tom MacComber said attendees will leave the ranch in two groups, with about 60 cars combined, at 8:30 a.m. for a tour of the county. The group will stop in Lucerne first.
“We will head up to the Lucerne Hotel, park out front and meet Eric Seely for a tour,” MacComber said. Attendees will be provided with literature on the history of the hotel.
The group will then head to Chacewater Wine and Olive Mill in Kelseyville for a catered lunch at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Next stop: Ely Stage Stop and Country Museum in the Clear Lake Riviera at around 1:30 p.m. where they will be greeted by Historical Society members.
At 5 p.m., the attendees will meet back at Rancho De La Fuente for drinks, Mexican cuisine and activities.
“There”s going to be a Model ”A” pi?ata with a bunch of ribbons hanging underneath,” Eddy said. “One ribbon will open the trap door and all the candy will come down.”
The club”s annual auction and raffle follows dinner and will raise money for the event. Eddy said the club donates any leftover money to the county high schools for scholarships.
