KELSEYVILLE — The Kelseyville High School tennis team capped another 8-0 season with a 5-0 victory over the Cloverdale Eagles in the Coastal Mountain Conference finale for both teams on Tuesday in Kelseyville.
Kelseyville finishes atop the CMC Central standings with a 16-player squad that loses only three players, albeit some significant ones, to graduation.
“It”s not even a rebuilding year,” Kelseyville coach Jeff McLaren said with an eye toward 2013. “We”ll do a little restructuring, but we should be in the thick of it again next season.”
Losses to graduation include Moses Kuzu, a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Sal Mendoza in first singles on Tuesday, and Nils Mostin, a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Oscar Ochoa in second singles. Ashely Taylor, who teamed up with Abby McQueen to beat Mariana Ramirez and Adriana Gutierrez 6-0, 6-0 in second doubles, is the third senior on the team.
“These kids showed up to practice, they kept their grades up and they showed up to play,” McLaren said.
Other winners in the season finale for Kelseyville were Claire Vargas, a 6-3, 6-1 winner in third singles, and Kyle Schmidt and Max Lehman, 6-3, 6-0 winners over Jose Torres and Ben Natividad in first doubles.
