LAKEPORT — The Lake County Board of Supervisors (BOS) Tuesday adopted five proclamations.
One proclamation designated May as Mental Health Month. The proclamation called upon county citizens, government agencies, businesses, schools and others to support efforts that increase awareness and understanding of mental illnesses, (reduce) stigma and discrimination, and promote appropriate and accessible services for all.
District 3 Supervisor Denise Rushing presented the proclamation to James Cox, chair of the Mental Health Advisory Board, Kristy Kelly, Mental Health Department director, and June Wilson, a Mental Health specialist. Kelly said the department is there to provide help for those who need it.
May is National Military Appreciation Month. A proclamation was presented by District 1 Supervisor Jim Comstock, a Vietnam War veteran, to a group of active-duty military members as well as veteran”s services organization members.
The proclamation stated, “Congress passed a resolution in 2004 proclaiming May as National Military Appreciation Month, calling all Americans to remember those who have given their lives in defense of freedom and to honor the men and women of our Armed Services who have served and continue to serve our country.”
The group received a standing ovation from the BOS and those in the audience. Frank Parker, commander of the Lake County United Veterans Council, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the group.
Two proclamations were adopted commending two longtime county employees on the day of their retirement and presented by BOS Chair Rob Brown to Greg Campbell and Bob Renker. Campbell worked for more than 24 years as an appraiser and Renker as an auditor appraiser for more than 36 years. The two men received a standing ovation.
The last proclamation, which was adopted as part of the BOS consent agenda, designated May as Building Safety Month.
The proclamation stated, “Building Safety Month is observed annually and is sponsored by the International Code Council, offering literature to educate and inform the public about the critical role played in our communities by local building code professionals, such as the Lake County Building Division, whose professionals endeavor to assure us of safe, efficient and livable buildings.”
