LAKEPORT — The case against a man accused of killing a Maine couple in Lake County more than two years ago is set for trial in mid-October.

Judge David W. Herrick rescheduled the jury trial Monday afternoon at the Lake County Courthouse.

Robby Alan Beasley, 31, of Clearlake pleaded not guilty to three felonies, including two counts of murder, in connection with the deaths of Frank and Yvette Maddox.

Authorities allege Beasley shot the Maine couple, whose bodies were found in Lower Lake in March 2010, several months after he reportedly recruited the pair to help him with a marijuana operation in Lake County.

A trial was set to begin later this month, but the defense asked for a continuance to allow more time for ongoing defense investigation and to account for timing conflicts with other homicide cases being defended by Beasley”s attorney, Stephen Carter.

The prosecution did not oppose the request.

Herrick scheduled a new trial date of Oct. 17. Beasley is set to next appear in court for pretrial proceedings on Oct. 1.

Beasley”s co-defendant, Elijah Bae McKay, did not appear at the Lakeport courthouse Monday afternoon.

The cases against the two men are on separate tracks. McKay, 29, has not yet had a preliminary hearing.

Both men remain in custody at the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.
