BERKELEY — Marin Academy of San Rafael won the team title with a score of 306 in the small-schools division of the North Coast Section Golf Championships on Monday at Tilden Park in Berkeley.
Justin-Siena of Napa was a close second with 308 and Marin Catholic of Kentfield came in third with 310. Coastal Mountain Conference South champion St. Vincent of Petaluma was sixth in the nine-team field with 330 and Middletown was seventh with 353.
While no teams advance to the NCS Meet of Champions next Monday at Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton, the low four individual scorers do move on to the TOC. They are Cody Bates of McKinelyville, who fired a 4-under-par 66 on the par-70 Tilden Park layout; Matt Cutcliffe of Marin Academy, who carded a 70; Darrin McClennon of Bentley, who also finished with 70; and Justin-Siena”s Jack Wilson had 72.
Wilson is the son of Jeff Wilson, the low amateur finisher at the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
Other low individual rounds on Monday went to Evan Knight of St. Vincent at 73 and to Kasey Cazet of Rincon Valley Christian and Corey Huber of Kelseyville, both at 76.
“It was a nice way for Corey to finish his career at Kelseyville,” Kelseyville coach John Berry said of Huber, a four-time sectional qualifier.
“No one put in more time than Corey and all of his hard work paid off,” Berry said.
Middletown, with no seniors on its roster, reached the NCS Championships via an at-large berth.
“They got here probably a year too soon, but it”s a feather in their cap,” Berry said. “They have everyone back and this is a pure bonus. The playoff experience should serve them well down the road.”
Anthony Tacla led the Mustangs with a round of 85 that included one birdie. Daniel Eagle finished at 87, also with one birdie, Aaron Waldrop had 88 and Raphael Roy-Labelle carded a 93.
Huber had two birdies during his round.
