After reading the editorial on the geese in the park, I am very thankful for the Department of Fish and Game along with Lakeport Police Department.
Eliminating these geese are far more important than to have the possibility of an outbreak of disease. I understand they are cute and cuddly but the people that complain that this is “slaughter” would be the first group of people to sue the city/state if their loved one got sick.
Our poor agencies are dammed if they do and dammed if they don”t. Society needs to realize that there is more that goes into making a decision like killing these geese than just waking up one day and saying “let”s kill them!” There are Fish and Game biologists that assess the situation and determine that it”s in the best interest of the people to follow through with such an act. These biologist go to school for many years and have credentials that I don”t have, therefore I am pleased to have them on the side of humans.
The community appreciates that Lakeport Police Department, USDA and the Department of Fish and Game did this in the middle of the night, taking time away from their families to protect ours.
