LAKE COUNTY — A handful of Lake County varsity track and field stars go into Saturday”s Coastal Mountain Conference Championships as the top seeds in their respective events. Action begins 9 a.m. at St. Helena High School.
North Central League I and II team titles are also up for grabs Saturday. The CMC Championships are the first step in the postseason for track and field athletes. They are followed by the North Coast Section Championships May 19 at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, the Meet of Champions May 25-26 at Berkeley, and the CIF State Championships June 1-2 at Clovis.
No. 1 seeds from Lake County going into the CMC Championships are, in the varsity girls” division, senior Amber Hart of Middletown in the 100-meter hurdles (17.73 seconds) and junior Emily Reed of Middletown in the triple jump (31 feet, 7 inches).
No. 2 seeds are Middletown”s Hart in the 300 hurdles (52.31), Clear Lake junior Nadine Bradley in the high jump (5-0), Clear Lake senior Jessica Asbury in the long jump (14-10), Middletown junior Kelly Wilkinson in the triple jump (31-1), Middletown sophomore Palomo Colacion in the discus (79-9), Clear Lake senior Kelsie Lawson in the 800 (2 minutes, 41.24 seconds), Upper Lake freshman Heather Hankins in the 100 (13.44) and Lower Lake senior Laura Onate in the shotput (29 7 3/4).
In the varsity boys” division, No. 1 seeds from Lake County are sophomore Victor Montanez of Middletown in the 300 hurdles (44.64), junior Zuhuri Manley of Clear Lake in the long jump (21-11) and Middletown senior Nick Dellia in the shotput (43-11).
No. 2 seeds are Middletown”s Dellia in the discus (127-10), Kelseyville junior Arnulfo Vargas in the high jump (5-8), Middletown senior Tanner Alves in the long jump (20-8), Middletown sophomore Austin Benson in the triple jump (41-9) and Clear Lake senior Julio Gonzales in the shotput (42-5).
In varsity relay competition, Lake County has the No. 1-seeded teams in both the boys” and girls” 4×100. Kelseyville”s girls are No. 1 at 53.04 followed by No. 2 Middletown at 54.69. The Middletown and Kelseyville boys are the co-No. 1 seed at 47.04.
In the 4×400 relay, the Kelseyville girls are No. 1 at 4:37.24 followed by Middletown at 4:42.24. The Middletown boys are the No. 2 seed at 3:45.54.
