There is one open seat and four candidates for Superior Court Judge, Department 1. This is an important campaign because the individual elected will no doubt be in that seat for many years to come. Why? Because typically, incumbents are not challenged when they come up for re-election.
So folks, we need to get this right.
Each candidate seems qualified but one stands out, Judy Conard, and here”s why.
Judy Conard is the only candidate running who applied for a recent Judge appointment who”s application made it all the way to the Governor”s desk. That means Judy has been through the scrutiny of an intense investigatory process and a thorough evaluation by the judicial nomination evaluation committee. The appointment was at the Governor”s discretion and he selected Judge Blum. But the point is Judy was deemed ready to be Judge even then.
That kind of intense scrutiny tells me that her experience was superior and her ethics above reproach. All the candidates have multiple years of experience as anyone running for Judge must. I learned that Judy has worked on both the prosecution and defense side in local, state and federal courts and that she is the only candidate to have tried very complex cases involving trademark and copyright infringement and DNA science. Further, she is the only candidate to have litigated two death penalty cases.
In researching the information available for all the candidates, I found a few more things about Judy”s qualifications that are worth mentioning. Before becoming a lawyer, Judy started as a middle-school teacher. It”s no wonder Judy is often the litigator of choice by the courts when it comes to cases involving children. In addition, she was a former teacher”s union negotiator, and is also qualified to defend veterans before the VA.
Please read the campaign material Judy put out. You can find it at www.judyconardforjudge.com.
Judy says that Judges make decisions that impact public safety, our quality of life and that qualifications matter. I agree. After studying her qualifications I”m convinced that the best person for Judge is Judy Conard.
