LAKEPORT — The man charged with causing a fatal crash in Kelseyville last summer pleaded no contest Monday to two felonies in the case.
Jacobo Lopez Mejia, 24, entered the pleas to two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in connection with the Aug. 18 rollover that killed Hector Chavez Perez and Florentino Leon Flores.
Lopez Mejia relied on a certified Spanish-language interpreter during the proceedings Monday afternoon at the Lake County Courthouse.
The remaining counts and special allegations would be dismissed at the time of sentencing, according to the plea agreement reached by defense counsel Doug Rhoades and Lake County District Attorney Don Anderson.
The deal calls for Lopez Mejia to receive a midterm sentence of eight years in state prison.
Lopez Mejia, a Mexican national, would be deported after serving his time in custody, according to Rhoades.
Judge Andrew S. Blum referred the case to the Lake County Probation Department for a report and recommendation. A sentencing hearing is set for July 30 at 8:15 a.m.
